Skills Development

Digital Technology

I can film/record video with a video camera and can use most of the settings on the camera, I also know how to upload my video recording onto the computer system. With sound recording I' am able to use a detachable microphone onto a video camera, I also know how to use a boom mic with a video camera by plugging it in to the microphone slot. Other sound techniques I can do include cutting sound on the computer and moving it to different clips and also editing the sound including changing the pitch and the volume. My Final Cut skills include varying editing skills including cutting shots and clips and changing clip transitions, I' am able to upload video clips via iMovie to Final Cut. I' am also able to add text clips to my Final Cut film. I did not use a digital camera. The good things about the software at AS was that it was simple and easy to use and understand, the bad thing about the software and hardware at AS was that it was sometimes annoying to use and not being able to upload a video recording straight from the camera to Final Cut.

Creativity

During AS I do not think I was as creative as I could have been especially during the construction and post-production stages, the narrative was however the most creative out of all the other factors of the project. For the location this year I would want to do somewhere out of my comfort zone as last year my film project was filmed at my house. In terms of originality our film was original compared to other blockbusters out at the moment for example the setting and narrative have never been done before.

Research and Planning

For my AS project for my research, for my primary research our group gave out an audience survey to find out which genre our target audience (15-24) was most inclined to go and see and what particular kind of cinema would they go and see, we also researched into different graphics we could use within our film such as font and color palette. Secondary research included researching British film institutions such as Film Four and also researching different actors and actresses who would play the characters within our film and also researched different costumes for our characters. For my blog I organized my work into 3 different categories planning, construction and post-production, my blog had now obvious faults in terms of layout and I believe it was well organized. For my research I would improve the amount of general detail of all the topics of my research as I thought it lacked depth in most areas.

Post-Production

For our film opening we had one track of video and 2 layers of sound and edited chronologically from start to finish, we added text such as our names and the film title after we had finished cutting and transitioning the film clips. Editing techniques that we used included transitioning effected such as a screen wipe, we also over layed the text and used transitioning for the text also, no SFX were used however there are moments where we editing the sound such as heightening the volume for dramatic effect e.g. a closing of a door. Also, for my evaluation during post-production I would improve it by using different software to produce a more diverse way of showing how I would have improved my film project such as using Prezi/Youtube/Interviews more rather than a lot of text.

Using conventions from real media texts

For our film the conventions that we used was including an ident and opening titles, like other film openings so people would know that this was the beginning of a film.
