Media Pre-Production Proposal: Characters

During the opening 2 minutes of the film only three characters will be seen. The minister of the interior, the assassin and the gang lord are these characters.

For the minister of the interior I would want to have an actor alike Clive Owen (Children of Men, Sin City, Duplicity). The character of the minister will have a very tense and serious look and wear normal business clothes. Clive Owen look matches this description perfectly for this role. In the opening scene the minister will be giving the assasin the job of killling the gang lord so therefore it is key to set up the character in these opening minutes. His dialogue and body language will show that he is a very serious man that is not to be reckoned with. The character would most likely wear a typical black suit with tie and smart attire such as an expensive looking watch, this is to show a stereotypical business men or a politician.

For my assasin character the costume will be more important than the actor themselves because I aim to keep the identity of the assasin a mystery until later on in the film. But, the actor I would choose to play the assasin would be Johnny Depp, a person who can show little emotion to the audience is what the character should aim to portray. In the opening scene the character will give away no clues of to who is therefore no facial shots will be used and also no dialogue for the character will be used either, even his body lanuage I aim to keep very plain and ordinary. The character will most likely have a deep and menacing voice to reflect the characters attitude in the film, he also would also wear a bowler hat and dark black trench coat to show a slight vintage 1920's feel about the character. This would be used to fit a stereotype of a person who belongs in the 1920's and what an assassin would look like.

Jimi Mistry is the inspiration for the gang lord character, this is because of his skill of expressing troubled emotions to the audience. In this opening scene this character will be killed off by the assasin therefore it is key that they are able to set up their character. The gang lords character will be seen to be very agitated even before the assasin has entered the room therefore the audience will begin to ask questions on why he is like this which is key to the beginning of the film. The gang lords attire will be of casual clothing and a lot of bling possesions e.g. Gold watch, necklaces, bracelets etc. This would suggest that the character himself is not very intelligent as this would be the stereotype of the person who would wear this clothing.
